I brought out one of the "Kandinsky quilts" that is ready for the art show in April. I snapped a quick picture of my class, amazed at their finished product. They even helped make the border pieces!
We talked about good ol' Wassily (the kiddos love that name) and looked at some of his abstract paintings, Especially the one pictured above, Concentric Circles. I had a copy of it at each table for them to look at for inspiration.

Each student made their own circle piece of the bigger puzzle.
I know this idea has been done before...but can I just tell you how much joy my first graders got out of mixing colors??! I forgot how much fun it can be.

It does look like a lot of fun!! Love the border:))
ReplyDeleteaw i love them admiring their work! :) So cute!
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of paper did you glue all their squares on? I see white underneath then black all around--did you just use Butcher paper? This is beautiful! Also what kind of paint do you use?
ReplyDeleteCMae, first I glued them onto the white-which came from a large roll (bulletin board paper) and then glued it onto black rolled paper- this was an unnecessary step- I just happened to be out of black and found some later! We used crayola brand tempera, the colors are so bright and different because I really stressed mixing and adding white paint, too. Thanks!!
