My talented first graders have been working on these gator weavings. I wish I could credit the original idea, which I saw on pinterest--but when I tried to click the link the flickr site was disabled :[ If this was your idea, please leave a comment so I can give you the credit! (Thanks!)
Of course I changed a few things around, but the basic idea was to create a narrow weaving and turn it into the body of an alligator.
I believe this is a 6"x9" piece of paper that we painted using blues, greens, yellows, and golds...I also had them scratch into the wet paint- because it's much more fun!
love their cool ideas!
Day 2: creating a paper weaving. I pre-cut the looms on the paper cutter...you could maybe have them make the loom, but I think that would take a whole other class!
D

After weaving, glue the loose edges down.
On day 3, I had them trace 4 feet, one tail, and one head on a 9"x12" green paper
Add eyes and teeth!
The most fun: painting unique designs using gold, yellow, and bronze

Those are great!!! I can't wait to try this with my kids at home.
ReplyDeleteThanks! The kids had a lot of fun making them :]
DeleteMy kids in class are a bit old, but in a few years this will be a project for my kids :)
ReplyDeleteSaw the same idea on Pintrest and pinned it also! They came out great! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea. I always do weaving with my first graders too, and sometimes I get so bored with it. This will be a great variation!
ReplyDeleteThese are so adorable! I love all the textures. This technique would work really well to make chameleons too!
ReplyDeleteI need to do this!!! so wonderful.. I keep thinking of other animals that could be turned into weavings! awesome work!
ReplyDeleteHi Lauren, You found these on my site. I have been cleaning up Flickr so it might have been disabled. These turned out great! :) Thanks!
